Warning signs your sump pump needs attention
Call before the next storm if your pump runs constantly, cycles on and off rapidly, makes grinding or rattling noises, hasn't run in a long time, or you notice water in the basement. Most sump pumps last around 7 to 10 years, so an older pump is worth a look even if it seems fine.
Test your pump a few times a year
Make sure the pit is clear of dirt and debris, then slowly pour about 5 gallons of water into the pit until the float rises and the pump kicks on. Check outside that water is flowing away from your foundation and the discharge pipe is clear. If anything seems off, give Todd a call.

Frequently asked questions
How often should a sump pump be replaced?
Most pumps last 7 to 10 years depending on how often they run. If yours is in that range, replacing it before it fails is much cheaper than cleaning up a flooded basement.
Do I need a backup sump pump?
If your basement is finished or your pump runs often, a backup pump is good insurance against power outages and pump failures. Todd can recommend options that fit your setup.
